New Hire Skills Development Guide
Overview
Manheim's Human Resources asked Cox Automotive's Global Learning organization to create a learning resource guide for newly hired managers working at Manheim's auction locations.  Originally themed around the game of football, the guide is called the Playbook.
The Playbook was designed to give new managers a roadmap to success during their first year on the job. It includes everything from onboarding essentials to a detailed curriculum of role-specific training courses. Rather than follow the traditional look of an employee handbook, the Playbook was given the look and feel of a newsstand magazine, including large glossy pages.
A graphic designer created the basic template for the Playbook, and then a staff instructional designer defined the style guidelines for each section.
My Role in the Design and Execution
I was initially hired, along with another contracted instructional designer, to build the content for the remaining Playbooks.  Upon my initial inspection of the Playbook template, I found an inconsistent use of font styles, graphics, and text formatting. I also found numerous typographical errors.
After presenting my findings to the project lead, I was given the added responsibility of making the necessary corrections to the Playbook's template.  This also included making sure the Playbook could be distributed in print and viewed as a searchable online document.
I also created a companion guide for hiring managers. It followed the same theme as the Playbook.
